This avenue is the main commercial road in Milan, with over 350 dealers, mainly prêt à porter clothes, and it is one of the most famous and important in Europe. The avenue stretches from Piazzale Oberdan (Oberdan square in Porta Venezia) to Piazzale Loreto (Loreto Square). Along it you can find three stops of the Red Underground M1 (Loreto, Lima, Porta Venezia), the Railway Loop stop “Porta Venezia”, many trolley and bus lines.
Corso Buenos Aires runs along the area of the old “Lazzaretto” (the place where people hit by the plague were recovered), famous for the novel by Alessandro Manzoni “I Promessi Sposi “. On the Western side you can find an area, next to the Central Station, with many pubs and ethnic restaurants. On the opposite side a smart residential area arises where the Milanese bourgeoisie live. Corso Buenos Aires outline follows the old Loreto wide road which joined Porta Renza to the Madonna di Loreto square, where once a horse trolley line passed which connected Milan to Monza. This horse trolley line was then transformed in an electric one and later on it was replaced by the underground red line M1.
